ethical blogging for introverts – made simple
So many people try to come up with clever ideas or look for the perfect formula to create a niche blog. They are seeking the holy grail of blogging. Time and time again I see the question “what should I blog about?” come up on comments in blogs, forums and private coaching sessions.
There are several trains of thought. Only two opposing views seem to be important. One side leans toward the supply and demand formula while the other will tell you to talk about your passions and interests. There are merits to both, however I’ll bet you can guess what side I’m on.
Yep, passions and interests. I’ll tell you why. If you are writing something that you are interested and passionate about your blogging will shine through. Coincedently, Vlad Dolezal over at Fun Life Development just wrote about leading expeditions when you really care about something.
Even if your writing is average or your technical and design skills are limited, your love for the topic will be apparent with your audience. And let’s face it – the audience is who you are writing for.
On the other hand, if you are following a formula like a robot and chasing money than you are less likely to be adding true value to an already informationally overloaded web. I can usually spot these websites a mile away, but not everyone can.
Do you want to add to that problem or be the solution?
Just like a civilian shouldn’t be passing himself off as a doctor the same should hold true on the web – people shouldn’t do something they aren’t experts (or at least have some knowledge, passion and love for the topic). There should be a quality standard.
You know what your interests and passions are but if you want a little help using a simple method, Henri Junttila at The Wake Up Cloud has an excellent free eCourse (one of the best I’ve seen and it uses a very simple method).
Find the half dozen things you are interested and passionate about and you have found what you should be writing about!

To play the devil’s advocate for a moment – I think most of the demand->supply supporters think of it as satisfying demand that might not be satisfied otherwise.
Put simply, the demand is there because people are looking for a solution. If somebody comes and provides that solution, he’s doing those people a service.
That being said, I’m a big supporter of the “follow your passion” mentality

@Vlad…welcome to the site.
You capture an extremely valid point that I felt was unspoken and probably deserves another post. When you find you passion then you look for the supply and demand and satisfy the client with exceptional value and passion. You are right that anyone could provide a solution but if given two equal products or services at two equal prices, I would always purchase from the one that exhumes passion. Wouldn’t you?
Your passion shines through in everything you do Vlad, I wish everyone was as transparent. Thanks for playing the devil….er, advocate.
