ethical blogging for introverts – made simple
My friend Ruth over at Web Career Girl is celebrating her 100th post and decided to write about her blogging journey. A fantastic writer and excellent blogging buddy. Ruth – congratulations and happy blog-go-versary!
We all got talking at VRED voice, an amazing forum by Michelle Adams that is included when you purchase her amazing new book Build and Sell Niche Blogs, a comprehensive guide on blog flipping.
We decided that a few of us would write about the reasons why we blog, our journey and what we want to accomplish.
“Can A Blog Change the World?” by Ruth: “Blogging as an opportunity to use your voice for what you truly believe in, changing your world for the better”.
“My Blogging Vision” by Lisa: “When I started blogging back in October of 2007, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I’ve seen a lot of changes in my life since then yet my vision for my blog remains the same.”
“At the Speed of Blog” by Steve: “What I have seen in the way mankind has changed in the form of communication during my lifetime.”
“All About Me” by Donny: “All About Me – Well maybe not all. I wanted to take a minute and give everyone a chance to get to know a bit about who I am, how I got here, what I hope to accomplish and why I am looking to Internet Marketing and, more specifically, Niche Blogging for income.”
“Turning Dreams Into Goals” by Donna: “For the past year my dream has been to make enough money working online so that both me and my husband could work from home. We have a business that I currently run from home and I wanted to turn that over to him while I created websites.”
“Why I Blog and Why I’ll Continue to Blog” by Michelle: Inspired by others who ‘care’, I got to thinking about the world we all live in and how we have this amazing communication channel we know as the World Wide Web: I wondered if by blogging, can I change the world? Here’s some of the thoughts that quickly came to mind”
“Blogging Vision 2010” by Jen: “AkitaJitsu’s “Niche Blogging for Non-Techies” is all about answering technical questions about building niche blogs in a non-technical way. Jen (aka, Akitajitsu) started the blog a few months ago, and has written a plan for the blog’s future. She hopes this blog will become a popular resource for niche bloggers.”
“Blogging to Change the World – My World” by Leslie: “Blogging can be a hobby, something you do for fun. For me, it changed my world for the better. It made my life the dreamlife I always envisioned.”
“Niche Blogging” by Loren: “Making goals, missing goals and maintaining blogging relationships.”
There is not any single reason why I blog. It’s a culmination of things. If you haven’t read it already, you can read the simply stephen story over at my main blog on green living (warning, it’s quite long).
Life has been a journey of twists and turns for me. As an introvert it has sometimes been a little bit too stimulating. I often use the expression slow like tortoise and sometimes I want to hide in my shell.
But if life has taught me anything, it is that the world is an amazing place with so many struggles, challenges, opportunities and stories from real people.
It would be a shame to take my trials and tribulations to the grave with me when the stockpile of experience could be used to help other people cope with their journey. So I do just that.
I bare all on my websites. Nothing hidden. I say it like it is in the hopes of helping people with their journey. If I can make a difference in one persons life, then it will all be worth it. My other passion is simple green living and you could say I am here to assist and protect people and mother earth.
I’ve been playing with computers as a productivity hacker for about 25 years. Though not really a techie, I do ok. After a decade in the animal industry, I decided to change careers and start doing computer support work. This included a lot of business writing, including content for various high level websites. After 5 lay offs in a decade (because of all those mergers and takeovers), I decided to go out on my own and have been freelancing since.
It was time to stick it to the man. Though I’ve been doing that my whole life. In 2005 simply stephen was born. I provided writing services for websites and business.
I followed up and took a web design program in 2006 to help round out the skills. But after working with traditional websites & clients I decided to take a peak at internet marketing and lifestyle type work.
You know, the type of work that you can do from anywhere, anytime, while choosing to do what you will and won’t do. That’s it. That’s what I do.
I had been following Josh Spaulding for a while and he introduced a web mentoring forum now open to the public at IMD Forum. Shortly after joining I set up my first blog.
I’ve played the Google dance, lost money, earned money, bought products I didn’t need, tried different blueprints, got distracted, wrote guest posts, learned a whole lot, got focused and ended up here…I learn the one thing that will help you follow your road, is to know where you want to go.
And that’s what I’m doing. I’m focusing on helping people with living. Easy as 1-2-3
That’s the full circle, it’s all about living.
I have a few little mini sites on some passions. Call them little side projects to keep my passions burning.
So, my journey is a pretty fascinating one. There are still so many wonderful stories to come out. It is going strong and as the skill and focus is being developed it is getting more and more exciting.
I am a repository of stories and adventures that can help you with your journey. Some of them you would never believe. Just ask I love to help and share.
We’d love to hear about your blogging journey too and if you don’t have one, let us help you create one.

I love that list of ideal blogs. Here are mine:
1. Blogging about green living (something I am learning something new about every day)
2. Blogging about animals and being a vegetarian (I only just became vegetarian, and I had never realised before just how much this means to me).
3. Blogging about simply being positive and good (I just feel that if you can spread positivity, the world can become a slightly better place).
4. And helping people through an anonymous but still personal site I’ve set up but don’t really want to make public.
I really admire your blogs, you always have a unique perspective on both being an introvert and green living, which are two things I am still learning about. And I often feel like crawling into my shell too – I can definitely relate to this. My problem is that I don’t focus enough, but I’m newer to all this than you so hopefully I’ll end up in the same focused place soon
Thanks so much for this post, it has been great reading what everyone has to say. I was nervous about arranging it as it was difficult on short notice and with all the different time zones, but it’s worked out fantastically.

A nice plan and good involvement for others to learn from.
Nice job.

Thanks for sharing about your blogging journey. From one introvert to another it’s nice to “virtually” meet you.

I love your list of ideal blogs – it has inspired me to sit down and make a similar list for myself.
Cribbage! I haven’t played that in years. My family used to play that when we’d all get together (60 or so of us) for family reunions – brings back great memories!

@Ruth Well, I’d say our blogging carnival was a huge success. Thanks for being the catalyst. I’m so pleased you love the list of ideal blogs. Yours is pretty darn close to mine…maybe I have a few more because I just can’t seem to make up my mind on what I’m passionate about (seems like I have a handful of interests and I just want to do em all).
I deeply appreciate your kind words – you can’t imagine the impact they have, especially coming from someone as sincere and helpful as you. Your blogging and interaction has been motivational for me as well. I think it’s okay to hide in your shell, it’s just about balancing the retreats with positive and real life interaction.
Ya done good on this carnival Ruth. Ya done good.

@Steve…There are so many of us “Steve’s” around. Enjoyed your post too and it certainly was a great experience. I’d do it again in a flash.
@Donna…Happy to share my journey. Hopefully the perspective can help people with their aspirations and will create a “do it my way” approach. Us introverts sure do get around.
@Jen…look forward to your list. It is the closest I get to goal setting (I feel we get caught up in lists and goals) so I try to look at the journey and vision instead. Cribbage – what a great game. I play online almost every day. Very cathartic.

Stephen,
It looks like you have taken blogging and have actually made it your comfortable voice to offer everyone a part of you. That is a wonderful gift to share, especially when it seems like your journey has also shaped you! Thank you for sharing…

@Loren…what a touching comment. It has my eyes welling up a bit. Thank you. As an introvert, I definitely am much more comfortable sharing my voice. With so many life events (some not so good), I feel strongly that it is my duty to share them with others and make the world better in doing so…you are quite welcome. I hope my contributions will make you and all visitors step back, think and change what they see.

Stephen I’m so lucky to have met you in Josh’s coaching forum almost two years ago now I think it is! You’ve encouraged me every step of the way of my own journey and for me you are like that friendly face you know you can rely on. I know you’re there for me and no doubt many other people, it really is wonderful to be a part of your world.
You have a lot to be proud of and the influence you can have is huge I believe, and seeing all those blogs you want to create, well you are all set to make even more of a difference than you already have! (I love that you included a little update/checklist of where you’re at with each site, it seems you’re very organised!
)
You’ve had a huge impact here encouraging a quick carnival of posts….look at what it grew into from one ’simple’ sentence of enthusiasm and encouragement. Thank you.

Hi Stephen,
that’s an interesting insight into your blogging journey. I never used to “get” the whole blogging thing, so I’m a bit of a late starter. But I’ve already met and learned from so many great people online that I’m now firmly hooked!
My current blog is mainly charting my progress in setting up a passive income, but for the future I’d love to blog on downsizing and frugal living, and possibly painting (I’m a lousy painter so it may have to be a show case for my mentors and heroes!).

@Michelle…I think the feeling is mutual. I’m glad that I have had an impact and that I keep you grounded. Maybe I’m a little too thorough and it holds me back.
@Des…it took me a while to get blogging and I still don’t really get social media. Guess in some ways I resist change. I only recently started talking about my blogging experience. I wanted to have a good background instead of just doing the same old story about my blogging journey. I still may be a bit premature but I think I have lots to share. Look forward to seeing your downsizing and frugal living blog.
BTW…I have a painting site, that I had set up when I was doing house painting myself. I changed it to a painters resource site but haven’t really done anything with it. There are so many things that each and every one of us could write about. I’m thinking of putting it up for sale soon.

One noble purpose of blogging to help other people to develop themselves and you have made such. I started my blog to express my thoughts and share my experience for the benefit of others.
